August 25, 2021 –– Residents are being asked to share their ideas about community and economic development direction in an initiative devoted to answering the question: what’s our vision for the future of Fruitvale and how can we achieve the exceptional as a community? The Village of Fruitvale is creating an Economic Development Strategy that will work to answer this question.

“Fruitvale is doing well, with a stable population, a full downtown, and key initiatives like recent provincial funding for affordable housing on the old middle school site,” says Kelli Tuttle, CAO. “The Village of Fruitvale aims to achieve even more with a focused vision for the future, connected to actions to be taken in future that nurture job growth, investment attraction, resident relocation to Fruitvale, tourism, and local entrepreneurialism.”

CAO Tuttle notes that an Economic Development Strategy is like imagining standing in a Vancouver elevator as a resident of Fruitvale and being asked: what is Fruitvale all about? “We want to have the words and images that talk about an exciting future for Fruitvale as you answer the question in that little bit of time in the elevator,” she notes; “And that conversation can lead to a new resident, business investment, or visitor to the community, which enables Fruitvale to step into its full potential.”

Background

The Economic Development Strategy – anticipated to be completed in early winter 2021 - includes a community survey, key stakeholder interviews, data analysis, and workshops with an Economic Development Committee. Additional project elements that will be developed to support implementation of an Economic Development Strategy include a new brand, a new Village of Fruitvale website, and an implementation project to be identified during Strategy creation. The Village of Fruitvale, who is leading the initiative, has retained Rynic (www.rynic.org) to complete the project.
