SENIORS' AT-HOME TOOLBOX FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING

If you are experiencing any health concerns with respect to the Coronavirus, please contact 811 immediately.   Please contact your Pharmacy if you have concerns about getting medications.  Your Pharmacist is the best resource to talk to about home delivery of medications.

Contact local grocery stores to see which ones deliver.  You can contact Liberty Foods regarding their Golden Shopping Hour for seniors 65+ in response to the Coronavirus at 250-367-9911

Contact restaurants to see who delivers meals.  There are restaurants that are now delivering because of the Coronavirus.

THINGS TO DO WHILE SELF-ISOLATING

Message from Beaver Valley Public Library
Did you know that while you are self-isolating you can still access online e and audiobooks, learn new languages or register for free online courses via the library website?

Message from the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy - Trail and Area
As of March 16, CBAL is cancelling all programming. Even though our face-to-face programs are on hold, we are busy preparing for new online ones. We are excited about launching a series of online programs for families, adults and English language learners – it’s one way we can help to make “social distancing” a little less lonely! We will keep you posted.

Active Aging: Check out the following website for seniors. It has a lot of great information: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/family-social-supports/seniors/health-safety/active-aging

Other at-home activities:
Puzzles, Knitting/crocheting, Board Games, Watch old movies, Baking, Crafts, Reading, Journaling https://www.hearthsideseniorliving.com/journal-prompts-for-seniors/

REMEMBER:
The more we separate from one another, the better chances we give to those with compromised immune systems to stay healthy.  Attached is a video demonstrating the benefit of social  distancing and self-isolating and how this helps our health care system take care of those most in need of assistance. This article was published by The Washington Post.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/?fbclid=IwAR2H2DMLMUv1zx1hkB9xO_-vRrlRyHTsLPwUn1yIw_w6pap62QRRfwfWwsk

In this time may you all find helpful supports and creative ways to enjoy your quiet time at home. We won’t let fear overcome us as we strive to grow in peace and strength through this season.  Many of you know each another and please check in with one another through a call.  That is what community is all about!

Barb Cole
Beaver Valley Age Friendly Program Coordinator

WELCOME TO BARB COLE, the new BV Age Friendly Program Coordinator
BV Age Friendly would like to welcome Barb Cole as the new BV Age Friendly Program Coordinator on a six-month contracted position which ends mid-July, with possibility of extension.  Let’s all give her a warm welcome.  We would like to give a BIG THANKS TO VICKIE for stepping in through the transition of coordinators to keep the program stable!

MESSAGE FROM BARB
I am very excited to take on the role of the Beaver Valley Age Friendly Coordinator.  I grew up and then owned a home in Montrose, owned acreage and a home in Area A on Webster Road and, for the past 27 years, own acreage and a home on Mountain Street in Fruitvale.  Most recently we bought a little home in Montrose with thoughts of future retirement.  My heart is obviously in the Beaver Valley!

I started working with seniors at Kiro Manor in my high school years.  I then completed Registered Nursing and Health Care Administration and have worked in several roles supporting seniors' care and programs.

My goal for the BV Age Friendly program is to keep it age friendly and community driven.  I also plan to facilitate connections with community partners that have the shared goal of keeping seniors safe and healthy  within their own home and community.  My hopes are to develop positive relationships and I look forward to working with all of you!
